The Tasmania Jewels will shine when they take to the court in the 2026/27 WNBL Season.
The Jewels have been forged by the spirit of the island, the unique beauty of its wilderness and unbreakable resilience of the community – Jewels are created under pressure and only shine brighter in the spotlight.
Next season, the Jewels plan to play in Devonport, with construction of the new stadium expected to be completed in mid-2027.
It’s been three decades since Tasmania has been represented in the WNBL, Australia’s longest standing elite women’s competition.
The Jewels will play an estimated 10 to 12 home games, half in Hobart at MyState Bank Arena and half in Launceston at the redeveloped Silverdome.
The Jewels will be standing on the shoulders of giants, following the legendary Hobart Islanders who competed in the WNBL from 1986-96, winning a Championship in 1991.
The Jewels team is taking shape, including announcing their coach Claudia Brassard and recruiting players ahead of the 2026/27 WNBL season start.
They will March as One with the Tasmania JackJumpers, who joined the NBL in 2021 and secured a championship in just their third season.
The Jewels are committed to representing the entire state and every Tasmanian - a team for all of Tasmania. In everything we do, on and off the court, we Defend the Island with humility and authenticity.
It’s our time to shine! The Jewels will carve a future for the girls and boys of Tasmania to dream and achieve – a glittering ant trail of inspiration and aspiration. The Queen Ant doesn’t follow, she leads, she shines – and that’s what the Jewels will do.
We firmly believe that when we support elite women athletes, we support the girls and boys looking up to them too – and this is what the Jewels are all about.
The Jewels are committed to leading on and off the court as women’s sporting champions, and champions for women and girls in sport.
We know that there is nothing quite like all-the-good-feels that come from playing, competing or being a part of a sporting team: health and wellbeing; confidence; a sense of belonging; friendships; resilience; teamwork and leadership skills and so much more.
We want to play a leading role in helping to make sure that every girl or woman who wants to participate in sport, can participate in sport. To ensure women and girls are fairly represented and equally valued - a glittering ant trail of inspiration and aspiration.
It is the Mission of the Tasmania JackJumpers and Jewels to represent the entire state and every Tasmanian – a team for all Tasmania. We believe everyone belongs in basketball. We respect everyone for who they are, irrespective of gender. Everyone should feel safe, supported, heard, represented and included on and off the court.
