New Jewels Recruit Mia Jacobs: I’m a little Swiss Army Knife

Those who know the newest Tasmania Jewels recruit Mia Jacobs say she’s versatile on court, but when you ask her, she says it best: “I’m a little Swiss Army Knife, whatever you need, I’ve got you.”

The 22-year-old will make her WNBL debut after four years in the U.S college system including playing for the Oregon Ducks in the Big Ten Conference, America’s oldest and most prestigious division.

The modern forward has forged a reputation as a talented athlete, with an impressive 1,774 points across her college career, including 623 in 2024-25 along with 19 double-doubles.  

“Mia is arguably one the best Aussie coming out of the U.S college system, we had to have her,” Jewels Head Coach Claudia Brassard said.  

“She can stretch the floor, she shoots three pointers at around 35 per cent, and she has so much more ceiling above her to keep growing into.  

“With the leaders we have in Steph Reid, Keely Froling and Darcee Garbin, Mia’s game is just going to go from strength to strength.”

Jacobs was born in Canberra and is currently living in Perth playing for the Mandurah Magic in the NBL1 West competition, but she’s always had her sights set on Australia’s greatest league.  

“My big dream has been to play in the WNBL,” Jacobs said. “To have the chance to do this and with the newest team in the league is going to be amazing.

“Playing in the Big Ten was really physical, it’s structured, and you’re accountable, so I feel like that experience is going to help me step up in the WNBL.

“I’m just going to work my butt off so when there’s a chance to get the call up, I’m in the best possible position to hit the floor.

“I’ve looked up to Darcee as a mentor, and to have the chance to learn from her and such an experienced team is so incredible.  

“I hope to bring my versatility, my shooting and just all-rounder play to the court. I’m a little Swiss Army Knife, whatever you need, I’ve got you.”

Jacobs is committed to join the team, pending WNBL review and approval, leaving only one remaining rostered spot on the Jewels and two import spots.

General Public Memberships will go live on July 14, with the first game for the Jewels scheduled for October 15 at the MyState Bank Arena in Hobart and the first game at the Launceston Silverdome on October 31.
