Tasmania Jewels Vice Captain Keely Froling heroically played the team’s entire first game despite straining a calf muscle in the first quarter and will now undertake several weeks’ rehab.
It’s on-brand for the 30-year-old powerhouse forward, who is known for training hard and playing even harder across her 200-plus WNBL career games.
Froling will now focus on rehab, with an assessment in four weeks’ time, as the team heads to Melbourne to take on the Southside Melbourne Flyers on Thursday night.
Joining the Jewels is Injury Replacement Player Mikaela Ruef, subject to league approval, who inked her contract with the club yesterday on her 36th birthday.
The American-born Australian is a two-time WNBL championship winner, and former WNBA player. Ruef is no stranger to Tasmania, having played for both the Launceston Tornadoes and Hobart Chargers.
Tasmanian-born Jewel Taylor Mole will also sit out Thursday’s game, due to her back, and will be reassessed in one week.
Development Players Chloe Broomhall and Georgia Taylor will step in for Madina Okot, who is still playing in the WNBA final, and Taylor Mole respectively.
