The Tasmania Jewels have made history, selling out MyState Bank Arena for their debut game in the WNBL this Thursday night.
The team hit the magic 4,200-plus ticket sales for the season curtain-raiser in Hobart against Geelong Venom just this morning.
Head Coach Claudia Brassard broke the news to her team during a briefing before a training session at the team’s High Performance Training Centre.
“Tasmania has made a big statement,” Brassard told players. “The community that loves us has got behind us. We’re a sell out!”
The players erupted in elated and grateful applause and wooing, before ringing the bell that marks milestones inside the Club.
The sold-out arena adds to the Jewels success before they’ve even hit the court, with the team breaking the all-time WNBL record for memberships last month.
The previous membership record was 3,331 set by the former Melbourne Boomers in 2017/18. Currently, the Jewels have 4,054 memberships and it’s still climbing.
The Jewels will play 11 home games this season, with six at the MyState Bank Arena in Hobart and five at the Silverdome in Launceston.
The Jewels first game at the Silverdome is October 31, when they take on the Sydney Flames.
