Tasmania will once again shine on the national basketball stage, as the state enters a new chapter in 2026, with Tasmania Basketball Pty Ltd. unveiling the name, logos and brand story of the state’s WNBL team - the Tasmania Jewels.
Following the WNBL awarding Tasmania the 9thlicense in August, the announcement of the brand identity marks an exciting milestone as preparations accelerate toward the team’s debut WNBL season in2026.
The name Tasmania Jewels is drawn from a direct link to the Queen Ant, the leader of the ant colony and the fitting counterpart to the men’s arm of the club, the Tasmania JackJumpers.
The primary logo features the shape of Tasmania as the jewel centre in a crown formed from the shape of the ant mandibles, as well as the face of the queen ant creating direct synergies with the JackJumpers’ primarylogo.
CEO Christine Finnegan said the new identity captures the spirit of the community and the aspirations of the program.
“Tasmania is the Jewel in the crown of Australia and now the Jewel in the crown of the Queen Ant, and a force to be reckoned with in the WNBL.
“We’re incredibly proud to launch a brand that we believe represents the unique beauty of the state of Tasmania and the unbreakable resilience of our team and our community” she said.
The brand launch is the culmination of months of brand development, which canvassed the Tasmanian public through a community engagement campaign, to establish an identity that truly represents the Tasmanian community and gives female athletes a path of inspiration and aspiration.
The Jewels will maintain the Tasmanian state colours, Forrest green and Mandible Yellow, and introduce ‘Eucalyptus Green’ as a feminine accent colour of the women’s brand palette.
The brand identity celebrates the island’s rich natural heritage, drawing inspiration from Tasmania’s unique beauty, rugged landscapes, and the strength and resilience of its people. It reflects the team’scommitment to representing Tasmania with pride, toughness and ensuring theisland state shines on the national stage.
