Australian rising star Katie Deeble is set to bring her impressive shooting record and defensive pressure to the Tasmania Jewels debut WNBL season.
The 22-year-old point guard has fast risen up the ranks of Australian basketball, on top of a stint in the U.S college system, and is forging a reputation as a force to be reckoned with on the court.
“Adding Katie gives us another genuine outside threat and someone who can stretch the floor with her three-point shooting,” Tasmania Jewels Head Coach Claudia Brassard said.
“Just as importantly, she brings the type of full-court defensive pressure we want to be known for.
“Katie has a reputation as a hard worker, a team-first player and someone who competes with real purpose, so she fits perfectly with the standards-led culture we’re building at the Jewels.”
Deeble has previously played for the Canberra Capitals in the WNBL, Wake Forest University in the US ACC conference, and is currently playing NBL1 for the North Gold Coast Seahawks.
Despite never being to Tasmania, Deeble said she jumped at the chance to commit to theJewels.
“To be part of building a team from scratch, its history in the making, and I think that’s really cool,” she said.
“We have a really stacked team, there is so much experience there, I’m focused on locking down and learning as much as I can.
“I’m also so excited to get to Tasmania too, to be a part of the community, and share the WNBL game day experience with everyone.”
Deeble joins the Tasmania Jewels pending WNBL review and approval, along side rostered players Steph Reid, Keely Froling, Darcee Garbin and Taylor Mole, and Development Players Nikki Parker, Andie Smith, Chloe Broomhall, Portia Chopping, Ava McDonald and GeorgiaTaylor.
Tasmania Jewels membership will officially go on sale on July 14 and the season will start in October, with the Jewels playing half their games in Hobart at the MyState Bank Arena and half in Launceston at the Silverdome.
